The Camalig Municipal Health Office (MHO), in collaboration with the Barangay Council of Caguiba, officially launched its “PuroKalusugan” program in Caguiba on March 25, 2025, marking a significant step towards improved healthcare delivery at the barangay level.

PuroKalusugan, a flagship health program spearheaded by the Department of Health (DOH), aims to bring vital healthcare services directly to the residents of every barangay and purok. Camalig MHO has identified seven priority barangays for the program’s implementation this year, including Caguiba, along with Cabraran Pequeño, Maninila, Panoypoy, Solong, Tagoytoy, and Taplacon.

The launch event, held at the Caguiba Elementary School covered court, saw a strong turnout of stakeholders and featured a foot parade, a Zumba dance session promoting healthy lifestyles, and a formal program highlighting the importance of the PuroKalusugan initiative. Representatives from the Albay Provincial Health Office (PHO), Albay Provincial DOH Office, Guinobatan Municipal Health Office, Camalig MHO, the Barangay Council of Caguiba, and the six priority barangays were present to show their support.

“This program is our commitment to providing accessible and quality healthcare to all residents,” said Dr. Jennifer N. Lapus, MPSH, Municipal Health Officer of Camalig. “We are working hand-in-hand with our partners to ensure that the benefits of PuroKalusugan reach every corner of our community.”

Simultaneous activities were offered to Caguiba residents, including medical and dental check-ups, laboratory testing, medicine dispensing, E-Konsulta registration, and the National Immunization Program. Informative sessions on crucial health topics such as road safety, hypertension, diabetes, healthy lifestyles, and breastfeeding were also provided. Health booths offered IEC materials, kits, and services related to the National Tuberculosis Program, HIV, nutrition, and family planning. House-to-house profiling and PhilPEN risk assessments were conducted to identify and address specific health needs within the community.

The launch event was made possible through the generous support of various partners and stakeholders, including the LGU-Camalig, Albay PHO, Palanog Goodfound Cement, DOH Bicol CHD, and others, who provided essential logistics, medical support, donations, and in-kind contributions.

A total of 215 patients were served during the launch, with 22 households visited. Following the day’s activities, the Camalig PK Committee, PK Teams, and the Caguiba Barangay Local Health Board convened to discuss accomplishments, address concerns, and strategize for further improvements in the implementation of PuroKalusugan. The program underscores the MHO’s commitment to improve the health and well-being of the community by bringing essential healthcare services directly to the Camaligueños.
