Officials of Brgy. Calabidongan engaged in a Communication, Education, and Public Awareness (CEPA) program, which focused on the development of the Calabidongan Cave as a tourism destination.

 

Said initiative was spearheaded by the Municipal Environment & Natural Resources Office (MENRO), in partnership with the Community Environment & Natural Resources Office (CENRO) of Guinobatan, and Municipal Tourism & Cultural Heritage Office (MTCHO), as part of LGU-Camalig’s goal of promoting tourism and showcasing Camalig’s rich natural asset.

 

Moreover, Mr. Mel Nodalo, owner and administrator of the cave lot, has promised to develop the site for tourism, pledging his support in promoting Calabidongan, providing jobs for its residents, and enhancing various assistance for the said barangay’s programs.

 

The participants also agreed that caving activities would remain prohibited, purposely to ensure the integrity of the cave environment, as the updating of the cave management plan is still underway.

 

Calabidongan cave, noted as the only subterranean cave in Camalig, Albay, and the 10th potential tourist attraction under the local government, is expected to open next year once the cave management plan has been approved.
