26 defective weighing scales confiscated from a surprise market inspection were destroyed in Camalig, Albay during the traditional flag-raising ceremony on Monday.

Mayor Carlos “Caloy” Irwin G. Baldo Jr. emphasized that the destroyed weighing scales were manipulated, resulting in dishonest and inaccurate weight measurement of traded products and commodities—against the consumer’s right to fair pricing practices.

Coinciding with the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI)’s guidelines, Mayor Caloy also assured the public that their welfare as consumers is being protected, as LGU-Camalig is certain to continue its monitoring and surprise inspection of public markets.

The ceremonial destruction of weighing scales was led by the Mayor, together with officials from the Camalig PNP, BFP, and BJMP, market administration, and the licensing office.
