LGU-Camalig has been awarded as Bicol Region’s Tourism Destination of the Year at the Bicol Tourism Stakeholders Conference & Recognition 2024, held at the La Piazza Hotel and Convention Center, Legazpi City, highlighting the town’s dedication to developing its tourism sector and its transformation into a premier tourism hub in the province of Albay.
 
In addition to this, LGU-Camalig will be formally recognized among the nominees at the Philippine Tourism Awards which is set to celebrate excellence in the country’s tourism industry, honoring local governments, individuals, businesses, and destinations that have made remarkable contributions to the sector.
 
Camalig Mayor Hon. Carlos “Caloy” Irwin G. Baldo, Jr. and Municipal Tourism and Cultural Heritage Office (MTCHO) chief Mr. Jed L. Villanueva proudly received the award on behalf of Camalig.
 
In his remarks, Mayor Baldo also shared his pride in Camalig’s accelerated tourism growth, saying, “Nag-evolve ang Camalig from being known mainly for Hoyop-Hoyopan Cave to offering diverse tourism sites and experiences,” he noted. “This growth not only boosts our economic revenue but also creates job opportunities for our residents. Sa arog po san na pagi, nae-enhance ta ang overall development san banwa.”
 
Villanueva also expressed gratitude to the individuals who have shown unwavering support in achieving this milestone. “Dakulong pasasalamat po sa community, sa Camalig Heritage Tourism Council (CHTC), tourism sector and workers sa suporta para makuko ta ang award na yadi. Lalo na po sa saton na mga municipal officials kina employees sa wara-sawa na pakipagtabangan,” he stated.
