50 newly-elected and re-elected Punong Barangays (PBs) of Camalig, Albay gathered at Black Pepper Resto, Brgy. Salugan for a training on the formulation of results-based monitoring and evaluation systems for Disaster Risk Reduction and Management-Climate Change Adaptation and Mitigation (DRRM-CCAM) programs.
 
Presided over by Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction & Management Office (MDRRMO) Chief, Mr. Rommel V. Negrete, Jr., PhD, JD, D Hum, the activity highlighted the importance of risk communication and the role of barangay leaders in disaster management.
 
Senior Administrative Assistant V and Public Information Officer (PIO), Tim L. Florece, underscored the critical role of effective communication strategies in disaster risk reduction. He also stressed the need for timely, accurate, and clear information dissemination to both residents and LGU-Camalig through various traditional and digital media, reinforcing the importance of a well-informed citizenry in disaster preparedness, response, and recovery.
 
Mr. Negrete also focused on the organization, activation, and strengthening of the Barangay Disaster Risk Reduction & Management Committee (BDRRMC) and its functions. Negrete further encouraged the participants to create multiple executive orders and other compliances to ensure smooth policy making at the barangay level.
 
Municipal Local Government Operations Officer (MLGOO), Ms. Meredith O. Basquiñas, also presented the “Listo si Kap” initiative, a program designed to assist barangays in formulating disaster preparedness plans, determine their disaster readiness, identify “what-to-dos” to meet the minimum level of preparedness, serve as guide in responding to disasters, determine the needed assistance from the city/municipality, and identify capacity needs related to effective DRRM.
 
Municipal Accountant, Ms. Jessa M. Arranzado, CPA, also discussed the preparation, utilization, and reporting of BDRRM funds, purposely to complement LGU-Camalig’s advocacy to promote transparency and proper fund management.
 
The training also forms part of Camalig Local Chief Executive, Hon. Carlos “Caloy” Irwin G. Baldo, Jr.’s mandate to equip barangay leaders with the sufficient knowledge and skills to efficiently implement DRRM-CCAM programs, projects, activities, and services, with the end goal of ensuring the safety and resilience of the Camaligueño constituency, especially in the face of disasters.
